Vuela Al Espacio Con Virgin Galactic
Virgin Galactic, iniciara vuelos comerciales al espacio por 200.000 dólares (unos 140.000 euros) a partir del primer semestre del 2009. El viaje incluye el alojamiento, la formación y el viaje en sí, en el que los pasajeros podrán disfrutar de cuatro inolvidables minutos de ingravidez a 110 kilómetros de la Tierra. Los vuelos se van a realizar a bordo de la aeronave SpaceShipTwo y van a permitir a los pasajeros triplicar la velocidad del sonido, ya que viajarán a 4.000 kilómetros por hora.
Unas 200 personas de todo el mundo han hecho ya sus reservas intentando ser uno de los primeros. De momento, sólo hay seis españoles, cinco hombres y una mujer. La mayoría de los viajeros proceden de Estados Unidos y Nueva Zelanda y tienen una media de edad entre los 35 y los 55 años, aunque el más joven tiene 18 años y el mayor, 77.
Los vuelos despegaran desde el Spaceport de Mojave (California), pero la compañía tiene previsto construir un nuevo aeropuerto en el Estado de Nuevo México, el Spaceport America, siguiendo un proyecto del arquitecto Norman Foster. La compañía, que ha invertido 50 millones de dólares (35,1 millones de euros), no descarta construir más aeropuertos en otras zonas del mundo.
